Volunteer training for one-to-one volunteers

one to one support Would you like to volunteer with us and support someone as they improve their reading or writing skills?

Got to Read offers free short courses where you can find out more about what you can do to help.

Our courses are held at Tower House, 17 Tower Street, Ipswich IP1 3BE.  You’ll need to be able to attend two days.

There are 4 modules which make up our initial volunteer training over two days. They will give you the skills and confidence to be able to start helping someone with their learning.  The modules are:-

Introduction to Got to Read and Literacy Awareness
Yes We Can read and other methods of teaching and learning
Recognising and recording progress and achievement
Understanding safeguarding, confidentiality and boundaries

These friendly, informal short courses will give you a chance to meet other volunteers and to learn and think about:

  • the impact of not being confident with reading or writing skills
  • barriers to learning
  • ways of providing support

There are no course dates currently planned, but to find out more, or to give us your details so that we can keep you informed of training dates as they are planned, please ring Tracy Bose on
